How to embed Google reviews on Squarespace

Squarespace's Code block is the fastest way to get live Google reviews onto any 7.1 site. This guide covers the exact block settings so the script actually runs instead of showing as text.

TL;DR: Create a free Google reviews widget, paste the snippet into a Code block set to HTML with Display Source off.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

    Create your free Reviews Widget

Sign up, connect your Google Business Profile, and the latest reviews load into your dashboard.

  2. 2

    Style the widget

Match your Squarespace theme with the visual editor — layouts, colors, corners, presets and per-device previews.

  3. 3

    Copy the embed snippet

Copy the one-line <script> tag from the Embed tab.

  4. 4

    Open the Squarespace page editor

In your Squarespace site, go to Pages, open the page you want reviews on, and click Edit.

  5. 5

    Add a Code block

Click the + between sections → Add Block → Code. Squarespace 7.1 uses Code blocks; they accept HTML, including <script> tags.

  6. 6

Paste the snippet and disable Display Source

Paste the <script> tag into the Code block, make sure the Type is HTML and Display Source is off. Apply, then Save.

  7. 7

    Verify rich snippets

Open your live URL in Google's Rich Results Test to confirm Review and AggregateRating schema validates.

Frequently asked questions

Does this need Squarespace Business or Commerce?+

Squarespace requires a paid plan (Business tier or higher) to use Code blocks on version 7.1. Personal plans don't support Code blocks — that's a Squarespace limit, not a Reviews Widget one.

Will it work with Squarespace 7.0?+

Yes. Squarespace 7.0 has both a Code block and a Markdown block; either accepts the <script> tag.

Can I show reviews from Trustpilot, Yelp or Facebook alongside Google?+

Yes — add multiple sources in the same widget and enable source tabs so visitors can filter.

Will the embed hurt my Squarespace site speed?+

The script is ~5 KB gzipped and loads asynchronously — it won't affect your Core Web Vitals.

Will Google show stars in search?+

The embed injects valid Review + AggregateRating JSON-LD, which is the schema Google needs. Rich results are Google's decision but the schema validates.
