Google reviews on Wix: what works, what breaks, and the fixes

By The Reviews Widget product team9 min read

Most Wix Google reviews widget problems are caused by the container, not the reviews. Publish the site, test the live URL, make the Embed HTML element tall enough at every breakpoint and paste the full snippet. If it still fails, check for privacy blockers, layer order and the correct embed method.

What works on Wix today

A Wix Google reviews widget works best through the built-in Embed HTML element. It is available in the classic Wix Editor and in Wix Studio, where it may appear as an HTML iFrame or Embed a Widget. Wix runs the code in an isolated frame, so the widget cannot clash with your site's styles.

For the full setup, follow the step-by-step guide to adding Google reviews to Wix. This article focuses on what goes wrong afterwards and how to fix it.

Fix 1: the widget is not showing

A blank box is the most common complaint. Work through these checks in order, because each one rules out the next.

  1. Publish. The editor often shows a placeholder. Test the published URL.
  2. Check the full snippet. Paste the whole code again, including the widget ID.
  3. Use the right method. Paste the snippet into Embed HTML, choose Code rather than Website address.
  4. Test without blockers. Open a private window; strict ad blockers can hide third-party widgets.
  5. Check consent settings. If a cookie banner delays third-party code, accept and reload to confirm.

Fix 2: reviews are cropped or show a scrollbar

Wix gives every Embed HTML element a fixed height. If the widget is taller than the box, reviews are cut off or an inner scrollbar appears. Drag the element taller, or set its height in the inspector, until the full widget and its buttons are visible.

Fix 3: it looks wrong on mobile

Mobile layouts stack reviews in one column, so they need far more height than desktop. In the classic editor, switch to the mobile view and resize the element there. In Wix Studio, select each breakpoint and set the height separately.

Quick mobile checklist

  • Set the element to full section width, not a narrow column.
  • Increase height at the mobile breakpoint only.
  • Pick a compact layout, such as carousel or badge, for small screens.
  • Check that no strip or image overlaps the element in the layer order.

Try a widget built to fit Wix

Choose from grid, carousel, badge and more, then preview it on desktop and phone before you paste.

Fix 4: new reviews or replies are missing

Embedded widgets show the reviews the provider has fetched. If a new review is missing, the widget may not have refreshed yet. Reviews Widget refreshes sources automatically on a schedule, and re-checks stored reviews for new owner replies. Very recent reviews may also be held by Google's own moderation before they appear publicly.

Wix reviews apps vs an embedded widget

Wix App Market reviews apps install inside your dashboard, which some owners prefer. They often need a separate subscription and usually cover a single platform. An embed works the same on Wix, WordPress, Squarespace and anywhere else, so you keep your setup if you ever move site builders.

Reviews Widget can also combine Google, Trustpilot and other sources in one Google reviews widget. Compare plans on the pricing page, including the free tier.

Before you go live

Test the published page on a phone and a desktop, click Read more and Load more, and confirm nothing is cropped. Then keep the reviews coming with your Google review link, and see where to place reviews for the pages where they help most.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Google reviews widget not showing on Wix?+

Most often the site has not been published, the Embed HTML element is too short, or the snippet was only partly copied. Publish, test the live URL, enlarge the element and paste the full snippet again.

Can I add Google reviews to my Wix website for free?+

Yes. The Embed HTML element is available in the Wix Editor and Wix Studio, and Reviews Widget has a free plan. Wix's site-wide Custom Code setting needs a Premium plan and connected domain, but a single Embed HTML element does not use it.

Why does the widget show in the live site but not in the Wix editor?+

The Wix editor often shows a placeholder for embedded code instead of running it. Preview or publish the site to see the reviews render.

Why are my reviews cropped on Wix mobile?+

Embed HTML elements have a fixed height per breakpoint. Mobile layouts stack reviews, so they need more height. Select the element on the mobile view or breakpoint and increase its height.

Is a Wix App Market reviews app better than an embed?+

Apps install inside Wix and can be convenient, but often need a separate subscription and only cover one source. An embed works the same on any website builder and can combine Google, Trustpilot and other sources.
